Pete Eggleston raised over £1,300 for Amur leopard conservation by riding a gruelling stage of the Tour de France on July 20th. The event comprised a 108 mile bike ride, culminating in the climb of the infamous Mont Ventoux. Thanks Pete!

A leopard killed three sika deer at the Gamov deer farm during the night of 28 December. The leader of our local anti-poaching team placed four camera-traps that were made available by WCS. The leopard returned the next night to eat more and it killed a fourth deer. A total of 40 photos were made by the camera-traps. The skin pattern of every individual leopard is unique and comparison with the skin pattern on photos made in September (see story below) proved that this is the same leopard that killed a deer in September. We have to pay the farm a compensation of $US 400 for the financial damage. An expensive dinner party! Check out the photos
Chokolit’s “Biting Back” campaign is now supporting ALTA. From every milk crunch bar sold, 10 pence is donated to ZSL in support of our Amur leopard and tiger conservation work. Established in 2005 by 14-year-old Louis Barnett, Chokolit now produces a range of chocolate products that are free of palm oil. Expanding palm oil plantations in Indonesia and elsewhere form a major threat to remaining tiger habitat in Southeast Asia.
ZSL and the Primorskaya State Agricultural Academy's have developed a laboratory for the analysis of blood and tissue samples from leopards as well as samples from wild and domestic animals from areas where leopards will hopefully be re-introduced. This study is ongoing and will provide information about the diseases among domestic animals and wildlife that are a potential threat to released leopards. The majority of ZSL's work is financed with a "Darwin Initiative" grant from DEFRA (The U.K. 's Department for Environment, Food and and Rural Affairs).
